Kicking Up Friendships Through Futsal
On the evening of 25th April 2025, the futsal court at Blk 30 Bedok South was buzzing with excitement as community members, athletes, and special guests came together for a thrilling night of friendly competition and camaraderie.
Organised by Joo Chiat GRC in collaboration with the Singapore Silat Federation and Simply Islam, the event welcomed Minister Edwin Tong onto the court, where he showed that his skills extend far beyond the boardroom. Donning his boots, Minister Edwin Tong dived into the action with energy and good humour, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening.
The crowd was also treated to the presence of Singapore football legend Aide Iskandar, whose leadership and sporting spirit lifted everyone’s game. His presence reminded all of the power of sport to inspire, motivate, and connect people from all walks of life.
The futsal match was more than just a game—it was a celebration of community, collaboration, and shared passion. With every pass, tackle, and goal, bonds were strengthened and new friendships were formed, reflecting the true spirit of the event: to foster good relations, build trust, and celebrate togetherness.
As the sun set and the cheers echoed across Bedok South, the night closed not just with smiles and sweat, but with the promise of a community growing even stronger through the simple, timeless magic of sport.

Visit From Concordia Lutheran School, Hong Kong
Singapore Silat Federation is proud to play host to students from Concordia Lutheran School, Hong Kong on 27 March 2025. Established in 1968, Concordia Lutheran School is a well-regarded secondary school with a strong emphasis on academic excellence, character education, and global awareness. With a forward-looking approach, the school encourages students to explore diverse cultures and experiences beyond the classroom.
On this special visit, we welcomed a group of about 25 guests, including students and accompanying staff, who were eager to learn more about the art of silat and its role in our regional heritage. The exchange provided a unique opportunity to introduce silat not just as a martial art, but as a rich cultural tradition that embodies discipline, respect, and resilience.
This visit is meaningful for the Singapore Silat Federation as it strengthens international friendships, promotes cultural appreciation, and inspires interest in silat among youth from beyond our borders. It also offered our athletes a platform to demonstrate their skills, share their passion, and build confidence through cultural exchange. Experiences like these reaffirm SSF’s commitment to growing silat both locally and globally, and to nurturing the next generation of ambassadors for the sport.
SSF x Singapore Sports School Engagement Session
On Thursday evening, 13 March 2025, the Singapore Silat Federation (SSF) successfully hosted an informative and engaging session for parents and guardians who expressed interest in placing their child or ward into the Singapore Sports School (SSP). Held at OCBC Arena Hall 4, Basement 1, the session brought together a committed community of parents eager to explore pathways for their young athletes to pursue excellence both in sport and academics.
We were honoured to be joined by Mr Ng Kok Wei, Senior General Manager for SSP's Individual Programme, who shared valuable insights into the school's unique approach to nurturing national-level athletes. His presentation shed light on the pre-admission process, requirements, and the day-to-day expectations of life at SSP, offering clarity and assurance to parents seeking the best for their children.
The session also introduced the SSF Pre-Sports School Program (PSSP)—an initiative we are proud to be reestablishing this year. The PSSP aims to prepare young silat athletes for high-performance pathways through focused training, structured support, and developmental exposure aligned with SSP standards.
Joining us were our very own Head Coach Mr Rafili, Head Artistic Coach Mr Harun, and High Performance Executive Ms Hafizah, who together painted a comprehensive picture of SSF’s athlete development journey. Parents had the opportunity to ask questions and engage in meaningful dialogue with our team, making the session both interactive and enriching.
We are deeply grateful for the turnout and the trust shown by parents in exploring this path with us. As a reminder, Singapore Sports School will be holding its Open House on 5 April 2025—a fantastic opportunity to experience the campus and discover how SSP integrates elite sport with academic excellence. Interested parents may register via the here.
Thank you once again to all who joined us—we look forward to supporting your child’s silat and sporting journey.
